Description
A young boy poses with a banjo while seated on a haybale beside a large speaker cabinet at a local Gong Show that happened December 1, 1981. The boy's last name is Stillwell. The banjo is a Gibson and it has a Cox banjo head on it. Cox heads are known for having a sound hole and were the only heads to do so; they are no longer in production. The Gibson Musical instrument company stopped making banjos around May 2010 when a flood ravaged their workshops in Nashville, Tennessee. Cox heads are not made anymore, nor are Gibson banjos. From studio portraiture to candid shots around Pulaski County, Virginia, the Farmer Photograph Collection shows the people and daily life in and around Pulaski County, Virginia in the 1945-1995 timeframe.
