- While onboard the ship Saturnia, en route to Europe, Carl and Rio McConnell wrote this letter to the McConnell family back home and described their journey thus far. As happened in other letters they wrote home, each took a turn writing, so the letter is actually from both of them. Rio mentions that they never received the $10 that John Preston McConnell sent and has mentioned in several letters he sent to them.
