Description
Apparently at the time he wrote this letter, John Preston McConnell was having some sort of health issues- probably related to an earlier letter mentioning him having shingles (a stress related skin disease). He reports that he went to the hospital for a check-up and that he was in good condition, but also that he had been advised to take a very long vacation. He mentions that Governor Trinkle had visited him in the hospital and urged him to take a 2-3 month vacation also. This letter was addressed to both Paul and Carl McConnell. In addition, to his health news, he mentions the college having purchased the "Heth Reservation" and how they are incorporating it into the college; he talks about the number of students at the college for their summer sessions and how that number is bigger than any of the other Teachers Colleges in the state; again mentions the Governor asking colleges to cut the pay rate for employees by thirty percent (the Great Depression was happening at the time) and
