- In addition to relatine various family news in tis short letter from John Preston McConnell to his son Carl, he also inquires whether Carl wishes membership in the Virginia Academy. Dr. McConnell was an avid letter writer and would sometimes write several letters to Carl each week, so they were often times very short letters with very little new information.
