- This letter to Carl and Rio is another example fo John Preston McConnell's efforts toward helping his son Carl find a job in a university. Dr. McConnell is here suggesting that Carl contact the President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Vanderbily University, University of Florida and other places. He would frequently make these suggestions and often state positive aspects of each university when he did.
