- In this short note to Carl, John Preston McConnell asks Carl if he has received a $5 check that Dr. McConnell sent to Carl's son Preston. In two previous letters he mentioned that he was sending the check but apparently after checking his account, he is not sure that he ever sent it. Over the years, Dr. McConnell had occasionally sent money to Carl and Rio and on the occasions that the check did not arrive, he would go through great lengths to track the money down.
