- This photograph shows six members of a fraternal order sitting on horses in front of the Ballard House. W. R. Ballard was superintendent of the Dry Branch Coal Company. From studio portraiture to candid location shots, the William O. Trevey Glass Slide Collection documents the daily lives and labor of coal miners, primarily in the New River Coal Fields of southern West Virginia, at the turn of the Twentieth Century.
