- Description
- Dr. Ed Jervey was a Professor of History at Radford College/Radford University from roughly 1961-1991. Because of a controversy involving a "Letters to the Editor" submission to Redbook Magazine, (in response to an article published in February 1968 titled "Why I Believe in Sex Before Marriage" by Suzanne Milas), and Radford College's response to that letter, Dr Jervey sued college president Dr. Charles K. Martin/Board of Visitors.
This file consists of newsletter from the Radford Chapter of the National Society of Professors, dated January 1972. The newsletter appears to be a response to a disagreement between the Radford Chapter and President Martin. This newsletter notes that several items were excluded from the Radford College Faculty Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, despite an agreement that all documents pertinent to the Jervey vs. Martin case would be given. Because of that intentional act by Martin etal, the Radford Chapter used this newsletter to distribute these documents to society members. These four documents are: two letters from Leonard G. Muse to Charles K. Martin, one letter rom Charles K. Martin to the Board, and one letter from Charles K. Martin to Mr. L. Lee Bean. Also included in this newsletter is a copy of the “Letter to the Editor that Jervey originally sent to Redbook Magazine.
