- Description
- There is a brick factory in the foreground. The pits are where the mud is mixed with straw and formed into bricks. In the lower center of the picture, the snaking lines are formed bricks stacked in rows to dry in the sun. Most houses, especially in rural areas of Afghanistan are built of sun-dried brick. Then the walls of brick are covered with a smooth coating of mud, much like plaster. The Blair Brainard Peace Corps in Afghanistan Photographic Collection captures the photographers experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan, primarily in the city of Herat, 1965-1968.
