May 5-15, 1975 New York University's Loeb Student Center's art committee joined with the Fine Arts Museum of the Women's Interart Center in presenting a series of special events to salute 1975 Women and Art. Alice Neel (1900-1984) was an American visual artist known for portrait work. Her work generally featured women and they were painted as seen from a female perspective which set her work apart from male artist portraiture. Cindy Nemser (1937-2021) was an American art historian and writer and was the founder and editor of the Feminist Art Journal. Ruth Van Doren is an artist who works in painting, photography, glass blowing, papermaking, book arts, and jewelry. Dorothy Gillespie (1920-2012) was an American artist known for large, colorful, abstract sculptures and was artist in residence at the Women's Interart Center in NY.
