This letter, written to both Paul and Carl McConnell contains several pieces of family news. One interesting point is that John Preston McConnell mentions that he has 18 acres of corn in Scott County and that it produced about 500 bushels. He mentions that he gets half the yeild and the other half goes to the men who cultivated it.- Creator

This letter to Carl from his father, John Preston McConnell is interesting because it contains notes that Carl wrote in the margins in response to some points in the letter. It is unclear if this was because sometimes the family would circulate letters amongst themselves so that everyone would know the same information, or if Carl was writing these notes to help him prepare a response to the letter, or if there was a different reason. The letter is mostly to tell him that his brother Paul had left to go to Edinburgh, Scotland by way of London, England.- Creator
