  On October 20, 2018 during the Radford University Homecoming celebration, the Archives & Special Collections Department held a few very brief and impromptu interviews with alumni. The purpose of these was to get a slight glimpse of what it was like to attend school here over the years, and to see what Radford University has meant to the alumni over the years. These oral history type films are very short and casual but convey some interesting information. In this interview, Crystal (Akers) Surber, class of 1979 spoke to us about her time at Radford and what it meant to her.

  A.J. Gaither, a traveling musician who plays cigar box guitars, was interviewed in McConnell Library on the Radford University campus on March 31, 2015. He talked about cigar box guitars, life on the road as a traveling musician, and other things.   Donald Dedmon, Radford College's fourth President (1972-1994) held a press conference on June 8, 1972 announcing the decision for Radford College to be co-educational. In this press conference, Dr. Dedmon reads a statement and then answers questions from the audience.

  Joe Jackson, Radford's First Male Undergraduate Student

  On June 8, 1972, Radford College President, Donald Dedmon released a statement declaring that Radford College would immediately allow the enrollment of male students to the college as both resident and day students. That summer, Joe Jackson applied and was accepted as the first male undergraduate student. On December 6, 2018 he came to McConnell Library and talked to us about his experiences and memories of those days.

  Connor Prosser, a Radford University student, was one of thousands of participants in the March 24, 2018 March For Our Lives in Washington D.C. Mr. Prosser had never participated in an event like this one and shared his perceptions, his thoughts both pre- and post-event, his thoughts on gun control and what he hopes will transpire because of the march.

  Gabriel Bennett is a Radford University student, and a life-long resident of Blacksburg, Virginia, site of a mass shooting and participated in the March For Our Lives event in Washington DC. In this video he gives his thoughts about growing up in a town with that stigma, his hopes for change, and tells what he has been doing since the march to help inspire that change.

She participated in the March For Our Lives event in Washington DC and gives her views of it, her hopes for change, and advice for young people today.
