Arthur Giesen was born in Radford, Virginia in 1932. Both his grandfather and father were Mayors of Radford, his mother was part of the Radford City Council and was later elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Dr. Ed Jervey was a Professor of History at Radford College/Radford University from roughly 1961-1991. Because of a controversy involving a "Letters to the Editor" submission to Redbook Magazine, (in response to an article published in February 1968 titled "Why I Believe in Sex Before Marriage" by Suzanne Milas), and Radford College's response to that letter, Dr Jervey sued college president Dr. Charles K. Martin/Board of Visitors.
This file consists of a transcript of the deposition of Franklin P. Hillman in the case Jervey vs. Martin. Hillman, at the urging of his Attorney Robert F. Brooks, wrote a detailed memo pointing out many discrepancies in the transcript. This memo appears in the Dr. Ed Jervey Collection as well. Hillman was at the time Dean of the College of Social Sciences at Radford College.- Creator
