The Minaret of Jam stands 213 feet tall and is located in a narrow remote mountainous valley on the bank of the Herat River. it is the second highest minaret in the world. It was unknown by most of the workd until the late 1950's. Of course the local villagers in the area knew about it. The minaret was built during the Ghurid Dynasty (1148-1202). The purpose of the minaret is unclear.
