McConnell Library Card Catalog
McConnell Library Card Catalog
Before libraries used computer programs and electronic catalogs, they depended on the card catalog. In each drawer of the catalog was a group of index cards with call number, title, author, and several bits of cataloging information about the book represented by the card. Patrons would look up a book in the catalog to find the call number so they could go to the book stacks to obtain the book. -

McConnell Library Card Catalog
McConnell Library Card Catalog
There was a time of transition between when libraries used a physical card catalog and when they used a computer based catalog. During this transition time it seems some items were cataloged in the card catalog and some on fiche. The microfiche catalog would later be used as a backup system when the new electronic catalog was first in use.
