In a continuation of a matter first brought up in a letter from Carl to his father, John Preston McConnell dated May 20, 1934, Dr. McConnell alerts Carl that he has heard from Senator Harry S. Byrd that the senator is trying to help Carl get a job in Washington DC. Frequently through the years, Dr. McConnell would ask his influential friends and colleagues to help secure employment for his sons Carl and Paul. Dr. McConnell also mentions in this letter that he can contact Senator Swanson, Carter Glass and Congressman Woodrum about the matter if Carl would like that.
